R2 Agro are well on the way to finding a replacement for zinc for piglets prior to a total ban on zinc. Tests with Danish and Finnish herds shows good results.
Farm testing in Danish and Finnish swine herds shows that SpeiZi can actually replace use of prescription-only zinc oxide by up to 100%
It is well known that weaning is a stressful period for the piglet. The major change from feeding almost exclusively on sow milk to receiving solid feed places significant stress on the gastrointestinal system. Additionally, the animal’s incomplete developed immune system is also challenged when the piglet is moved to the piglet stall and mixes with piglets from other litters. These stress factors can put the piglet out of balance, resulting in an unbalanced intestinal function in the initial post-weaning period.
SpeiZi can be used beneficially in stables from when the piglets are 10-14 days old. This results in early establishment of healthy gut flora and helps the piglets transition to new feeds. SpeiZi is used up to the first weeks after weaning.
Replaces zinc up to 100%
R2 Agro have developed SpeiZi, a new supplementary feed for piglets made with seaweed meal and specially selected herbs and plant extracts, all of which have a naturally high antioxidant content.
Reduces cost up to 36%
Practical studies have shown that SpeiZi not only reduces the need to use prescription-only zinc oxide during weaning, but also makes sound economic sense. SpeiZi can reduce costs by up to 36% compared with veterinary zinc.
