1884
The company was founded in Copenhagen. During the first 100 years, the company concentrated on sales of raw materials and chemicals to the chemico-technical industry and the paint and varnish industry.
R2 Agro is proudly rooted in Denmark, with our production and headquarters located side by side in Hedensted.
Our company history dates back to 1884, shaped by a strong Danish tradition of quality, responsibility, and innovation. Over the years, R2 has evolved through several industries – from agriculture and food to chemistry and technical solutions.
For the past two decades, our full focus has been on agriculture. Today, we apply knowledge, science, and safety to develop functional feed products that meet the demands of modern livestock production – in Denmark and across the world.
Over the years, our name and address have changed, but our trading mentality has remained a constant. Sound business practice, strong personal relations, confidence, and integrity have always been at the heart of our company – and they continue to define the way we do business today.
Here are some of the key milestones that have shaped our journey:
The company was founded in Copenhagen. During the first 100 years, the company concentrated on sales of raw materials and chemicals to the chemico-technical industry and the paint and varnish industry.
Expansion into ingredients and raw materials for the food and feed industries. Lars Skou joins the company and strengthens the feed business.
Lars Skou becomes co-owner.
Acquisition of WM Specialfoder in Hedensted, adding in-house production of processed cereal products for the feed industry.
Headquarters relocated to Hedensted. Peter Skou becomes co-owner.
The company was reorganised into three business areas: Chemicals, Consume, and Agro. The company name was changed to R2 Group. 50% of the shares were sold to an equity fund to support growth.
R2 Agro is established as an independent company, following the strategic split-off of the agro division from R2 Group.
The closure of the Danish mink industry due to COVID-19 represented a significant setback. R2 Agro was a global leader in mink feed ingredients, and the segment accounted for around 50% of the company’s total turnover.
Ready with a new R2 Agro after nearly three years of redefining our business.
Lars Laursen, our Business Unit Director, becomes co-owner.
